Looking the wrong way

Digging into it

Another Spring Sess in town

We all know it's coming. We all know it's inevitable. But we all deserve to enjoy the bliss while it lasts. Who knows? By the time this column runs (not real time don't cha know) it may already be upon us. Of course we are talking here about the typical spring surf season. You know the drill: small to nonexistent northwest swell. What there is from the northwest is a steep angled wimpy wind swell that doesn't bend into the Monterey Bay. No south swell yet from the lower part of the globe. Fierce afternoon northwest winds blowing out the entire ocean. In a word: no good for surfing!

Evidence

But for now (at least as of early April) the surf gods continue to smile upon us. We have great conditions, substantial swell, and lot and lots of waves. These pictures are evidence of such, just another cool spring session in the town of Santa Cruz. This has been one of the best fall-winter-spring seasons for waves in recent memory, and it's not over just yet.

Can't last

So were you out there in April? Did you get some waves? Are you stoked from the memories and experiences? Well let's hope you are, since we all know this can't last. In fact, by the time you read this, the party might be over. If it is, then these pix and this account can help relive some of the last great waves from the 2009-2010 surf season. It's one for the record books, one to remember for our grandchildren, and one for history.

Future

Maybe, just maybe, it's not over just yet. We can all hope for more waves from the north Pacific before it goes into hibernation for the summer season. We can all hope for an epic south-swell season to come. It's all in the future, and all in these Chronicles. Keep clicking on DogManChronicles for ongoing words and pix of all the surf action here in Santa Cruz, and in the rest of the world too!
