First Column: Maui 2004
DogMan's LinksFirst Column: Maui 2004Lineup shot from the north shore of Maui. Fun swell, fun break with rights and lefts. Old Joke
Just flew to Northern California from Maui, and man are my arms tired! No, not from the flight, that's an old tired joke. Arms are weary from way too much paddling for waves, snorkeling, and swimming in the ocean. Spent over two weeks on the island, enjoying every minute. Weather was fine: light winds, no rain, mid 80's during the day and mid 70's at night.
Water Baby
This trip to the Valley Isle was blessed with good waves, bad waves, big waves, small waves, beauty waves, ugly waves, and sometimes even no waves. Surf sessions took place at several different breaks, some well known and some not. Took the opportunity to swim two miles in the ocean each and (almost) every morning. Wearing mask and fins enabled completing the exercise in about an hour, as well as sightseeing along the way. Sights included sand, coral, fish, honu, and even a ray or two. Could hear the humpbacks singing, could watch them cavorting while on their own winter holiday in paradise.
Over head bowling left. North shore of Maui. Tourist Stuff
Ate lots of seafood at local restaurants, bought lots of tropical fruit at farmer's markets, even purchased four new loud aloha shirts and a new pair of way-comfortable Teva sandals. Saw a chessey but enjoyable luau, sailed a catamaran to Molokini, drove all the island enjoying paradise.
Stay Tuned
There's (surf) pictures, (surf) videos and more (surf) words to come from this latest sojurn, so click back to PWR over the coming weeks. For now here's a picture or three to whet (wet?) your appetite for more. Gotta say Maui No Ka Oi!
Ho'okipa with a moderate swell offering lefts and rights. What's Next
Now for late winter and early spring surf in DogLand, income taxes, and work. Time to start saving for the next surf holiday, a return trip to Mexico this coming summer. But there's several more columns about Maui in the works. Click back often.
